A massive fire broke out at Mahakumbh Mela where at least 40 huts and 6 tents gutted into fire on Sunday evening. No casualty reported in the area.
According to reports, the fire broke out due to a cylinder blast, which engulfed 40 huts, 6 tents in sector 19, officials stated. Kumbh Mela Chief Fire officer stated that 15 fire tenders was present in the scene to take of the fire.
Prayagraj District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar Mandar said, โThe fire has been extinguished, and there is no information about any casualty. The situation is under control,โ.
How did the fire broke out in Mahakumbh Mela?
According to government statement, the fire broke out at around 4:10 pm after a cylinder blast and fire began from the kitchen of the Geeta Press camp in Sector 19, which is situated between the old and the new railway bridges in the MahaKumbh Mela area, Prayagraj. The fire than quickly spread to nearest tents, huts belonging to Shri Sanjeev Prayag. The Fire officials rushed to the spot with their vehicle and evacuated the area.
The fire officials team successfully brought under control the fire by 5:00 pm.
Additional Director General (Prayagraj), Bhanu Bhaskar stated that the fire was swiftly extinguished using modern equipment.
Suspecting that a cylinder blast caused the fire, the Mela administration removed all gas cylinders from the area to prevent further danger.
An initial investigation revealed that the fire began due to a gas leak from a small cylinder being used to make tea in the kitchen of the Geeta Press camp.
During the chaos, one person injured his leg while trying to escape and fell unconscious. He was taken to Swaroop Medical College in Prayagraj, where officials confirmed his condition is stable and not life-threatening.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath who was present in Prayagraj, visited in the Mahakumbh fire incident site and took stock of the situation.
Mahakumbh Mela has been started from January 13 and will conclude on February 26. It is 45 day Religious Mela. As per officials on Sunday alone 46.95 lakh pilgrimage visited in the Mahakumbh. At least 1.6 lakh tent and 50,000 shop has been set for the event.
