Massive Landslide and mudslides took place in the Sonapur and Kuliang regions of Meghalaya which block the Silchar-Guwahati route NH-6. This blockage road has disrupted the vehicular movement.
This landslide has trigged by heavy rainfall in this region. The landslide in Meghalaya occurred today morning which caused soil and rocks from hills to slide down onto the highway.
The landslide has caused severe damage on the road and the debris block the highway and make impossible for the public to use the road and requiring immediate repairs to ensure commuter safety.
The Authority have quickly stopped traffic and sent repair workers to clear the road. The timeline for completing the repairs has not given yet. The team have evaluate in the area and started clearing the debris from the road.
Commuters are advised to find alternative routes to avoid the affected sections of NH-06.
East Jaintia Hills Police said, “Due to mudslides and landslides along NH-06 in Sonapur and Kuliang, all vehicular movement has been stopped until the repair work is complete. It is recommended that commuters take alternative routes.”
