Karimganj Flood: Over 2.4 Lakh people affected, 77 relief camp opens

Karimganj Flood:ย The situation of Flood in Assam has reached critical level. Apart of this Assamโ€™s Karimganj has affected more. As more than 2.4 lakh people has been affected by the flood in district.

According to reports the three main rivers of Karimganj districts Kushiyara, Longai and Singla water level is above the danger level. The water of the river overflow and entered many areas.

For the Flood affected people a total of 77 relief camp has established in the area. The relief camp has set in Schools and other community building. This situation has taken place because of continuous rainfall for many days.

According to reports by the Assam Disaster Management Authority, 19 District of Assam affected by the Flood. This district are Kamrup, South Salmara, Goalpara, Nagaon, Bongaigaon, Lakhimpur, Hojai, Darrang, Nalbari, Karimganj, Udalguri, Tamulpur, Hailakandi, Biswanath, Barpeta, Cachar, Baksa, Bajali and Sonitpur.

Total 2,96,384 peoples affected in this flood across Assam. But, 2,45,379 peoples of Karimganj affected by the flood. 151 crop area affected.

Karimganj District Commissioner Mridul Yadav said, โ€œSevere floods have hit Karimganj. Our three riversโ€”Kushiyara, Longai, and Singlaโ€”are above the danger level. We have opened 30 relief camps where 9,212 people are staying. Nearly 150,000 people in the villages have been affected.โ€

The Area of Badarpur, Ratabari are mostly affected. This intense rainfall also caused landslide in Karimganj where five of a family died.

For emergency service NDRF team and local volunteers are on the ground. They all are assisting with evacuation and distributing essential items like, food, water and medical aid.

In Cachar 4155 peoples affected in this flood. In Hailakandi 651 people are affected in the flood.

The flooded rivers have cut off communication and transportation, making it hard to deliver aid to the worst-hit areas.
