Serious allegations have raised against the Block Elementary Education Officer (BEEO) of Ramkrishnanagar, Karimganj, for allegedly destroying important school documents after a bribe demand was refused.
The controversy arose from an order that the High Court passed directing the provincialization of VLP, a private primary school established in 2010. All these records of the schools were kept in the BEEO office, Karimganj for this reason.
According to reports, the school’s headmistress, Abida Begum, approached BEEO Manish Das, requesting him to forward the documents to Guwahati. It is alleged that Das demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 to complete the task. When the headmistress declined to pay the demanded bribe, Das reportedly burned the documents.
After the incident, Abida Begum the headmistress, lodged a formal complaint with the Additional Deputy Commissioner overseeing the education department.
In response, to Education Secretary S.N. Choudhury has summoned Manish Das to appear on November 19 for an inquiry. The findings of the investigation will determine the next course of action.
