A student of M tech of Delhi IIT found hanging in the his hostel room from the ceiling in the campus Delhi Police officials said on Thursday. Police suspect that it is a case of suicide as they found him hanging. But the police did not find the reason why the student took this step. This reason is yet to be ascertain.
The student of Delhi IIT who found dead
The student is identified as Varad Sanjay Nerkar age of 23. He was a resident of Nashik, Maharashtra. He stayed in the room of 757 at Dronacharya Hostel of IIT Delhi Campus.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest), Rohit Meena, said that the police received a call on Thursday reporting that a student was found hanging in his IIT hostel room. When the police arrived at the scene, they found the student hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet.
โDuring the investigation, we discovered that the student’s family couldn’t reach him on his phone. They call his friend, who then told the hostel security. The security team went to his room, but the door was locked from the inside. They had to break open the door and found the student hanging from the ceiling fan,” Meena explained.
The Family members of the student has been informed about his death. The body of the student were sent to a government hospital for postmortem. The crime spot was under investigation by the police.
The Police now talking to the friends, classmates, family members and the staff of the campus to know if the student was under academic pressure or was upset in other matter the police stated.
Further investigation is going on.
Email Sent to the Student for condolence meeting
Meanwhile, Aditya Mittal, the dean of student affairs at IIT Delhi, sent an email to the student community, informing them that a condolence meeting will be arranged soon. The email, sent on Friday, stated: โDear All, with a heavy heart, it is our unfortunate duty to inform you of the tragic and untimely demise of our M Tech student Varad Sanjay Nerkar, a resident of Dronagiri hostelโฆThe police have taken custody of his mortal remains.
While we try to deal with unbearable pain, the loss to Varadโs family is unimaginable. His family is expected to arrive from Nashik today (16th February 2024). A condolence meeting will be fixed by our Registrar in due course. This challenging time re-emphasizes the constant need for us to be there for each other. You are also requested to please utilise any of the multiple counselling avenues in our system if you need help coping with this tragedyโ
