An anti-narcotics operation conducted by Karimganj Police at Chewali Beel area, under Badarpur Police Station, in which police seized huge amount of drugs worth Rs. 4 Crore on October 13. 4 people arrested in connection of it.
According to reports, a team of Karimganj police led by Superintendent of Police Karimganj, Partha Pratim Das launched an operation based on reliable inputs in the area of Chewali Beel along BVCL Road. There they intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number MZ 01D 7755. After search police recovered 48 soap cases, containing 548.82 grams of heroin. Four individual arrested in connection of it. According to police, the market value of seized items would be Rs. 4 Crore.
The arrested individual identified as Abdul Basit (age 25), Faizul Haque (age 26), Taj Uddin and Nahim Uddin (age 31), all are residents of Patharkandi, Karimganj.
The vehicle was coming from Aizwal, Mizoram.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the efforts of Karimganj police by stating, โBased on reliable input,an anti-narcotics ops was conducted by @karimganjpolice at Chewali Beel where a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State was intercepted & 548.82 gms of heroin was recovered. Four persons have been apprehended. Good job @assampolice.โ
In follow up investigation Karimganj SP confirmed about the arrest of Jabrul Hoque, a major drug dealer in police records. The drug dealer is a residents of Bazarghat under Ratabari police station, was identified as one of the masterminds behind the smuggling attempt.
During the arrest, Jabrul’s family resisted the police. Two officers were slightly injured, and Jabrul hurt his knees while trying to escape. Backup was called, and after a chase, Jabrul was successfully arrested. A separate case has been filed under Section 121 BNS.
