How to apply Passport in Assam? Eligibility Criteria and Documents Required

Passport Application Process:

Process

The passport application process requires you to duly fill out the application form with all prescribed documents and fees. However, mere submission of an application does not constitute a claim for the issue of a passport. It remains a request or requisition for a passport, which may be rejected due to a deficiency in the supporting documents, not following the prescribed procedures, or any other reason.

Documents

  • Proof of Date of Birth, i.e., Birth Certificate, etc.
  • Identity proof with photograph (to be verified by Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) officials from the address proof and other documents)
  • Proof of residence
  • Proof of nationality (to be verified by Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) officials from the supporting documents submitted)

Online System

To avoid congestion at the Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and cut down the waiting time for applicants, the online appointment system has been introduced. Appointments are allotted according to the handling capacity of a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) and are based on an electronic queue management system. The following steps are involved in applying for a passport: online registration, downloading an e-form, filling out and uploading the same at the online portal, scheduling an appointment, and visiting a Passport Seva Kendra (PSK).

Passport Verification Guidelines:

On receipt of online applications for passports, Passport Seva Kendra initiates the process of confirming the documents of the applicants by physical interview on a date fixed online.

The following documents are required to be submitted along with the passport application at the Passport Seva Kendra:

  1. Proof of residence, i.e., the applicant’s ration card, telephone bill, or electricity bill
  2. Bank Account Passbook
  3. NOC from the department if the applicant is a government servant.
  4. Proof of date of birth
  5. Identity proof with photograph (to be verified by Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) officials from the address proof and other documents)
  6. Proof of nationality (to be verified by Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) officials from the supporting documents submitted)
  7. Colour Photographs

After physical verification of all the documents, the same are uploaded to the Passport Online Portal, which is directly received by SB HRs as well as the District Police concerned. On receipt of the personnel particulars form (PPF), the same is initiated simultaneously at SB HRs and the district concerned. After completion of the verification process at SB HRs, the same is forwarded online (CCTNS) to the district concerned. The District Police completes the verification at their end and uploads the final verification report, combining the report of SB Hqrs with theirs. During the process of verification, an SMS alert is generated to the given mobile number of the applicant from SB HRs once it is completed. Moreover, applicants may track the status of their passport verifications online in the Passport Online Portal.

The CCTNS system has been leveraged to process passport police verification using an online system for proper tracking and monitoring. SP will download the passport application using the existing process and share the details with the District Special Branch (DSB) along with the Person Particular Form received from RPO. The officer-in-charge of DSB will initiate the process for passport verification using the CCTNS system and will assign the request to the concerned police stations. After necessary verification, the recommendation will go to the district SP, who will finally approve or reject it based on the report received from the DSB, SHO of the present PS, and Special Branch. The Police Verification Report (PVR) report will be generated in PDF format after final approval by SP, which will be further submitted to RPO. Passport verification using the CCTNS online system was launched on July 4, 2017 across all districts. As of date, more than 862 passport verification requests have been initiated using the CCTNS system, of which 53 have been successfully disposed of.
