Hamas Political leader Ismail Haniyeh has killed in Tehran, Iran. Ismail Haniyeh was killed in his residence on Wednesday, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement.
The Iran’s Revolutionary Gaurds confirmed the death, Reuters reported. Hamas, a Palestinian group engaged in a war with Israel in Gaza said an Israeli raid killed their leader Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards at his home in Tehran.
According to state-run news agency IRNA Haniyeh was attacked at a residence in Tehran using an “airborne guided projectile.” The attack took place at around 2.00 am local time.
IRNA added that further investigations are ongoing to find out more details about the operation and the source of the projectile
Iranian State Media Reported that the killing of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh is under investigation and the result will be announced later today.
On Tuesday, Ismail Haniyeh attended the inauguration ceremony of Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian. He also met Iran’s Supreme leader.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri told Reuters, “This assassination by the Israeli occupation of Brother Haniyeh is a grave escalation that aims to break the will of Hamas.”
He also added, “We are confident of victory.”
Who was Hamas Leader Isamil Haniyeh?
The 62 years old Ismail Haniyeh was a senior political leader of Hamas, a Palestinian Islamic organization. He had served as the Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority from 2006 to 2007. Later, he became the leader of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Ismail Haniyeh was born in the refugee camp near Gaza city. He joined Hamas in the late 1980s during first Intifada.
In the year 2017 Ismail Haniyeh had become the chief of the Hamas group. In the same year, he named a “specially designated global terrorist” by the United States.
