Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Friday that she and her partner, television journalist Andrea Giambruno, have separated. Andrea Giambruno has drawn criticism in recent weeks for sexist comments made on and off air.
Meloni wrote in her social account, “My relationship with Andrea Giambruno, which lasted almost 10 years, ends here”. She acknowledged the separation, stated “Our paths have diverged for some time, and the time has come to acknowledge it.”
Meloni and Giambruno have a seven-year-old daughter. Their separation marks a significant personal transition for the family.

Giambruno’s Role and Recent Controversies

Andrea Giambruno is known as the presenter of a news program transmitted by Mediaset. This is a part of the MFE media group owned by the heirs of the late Silvio Berlusconi. Late Silvio Berlusconi was a former Italian premier and an ally of Giorgia Meloni.

Controversial Off-Air Excerpts of Giorgia Meloni partner

In recent weeks, off-air excerpts from Giambruno’s program were broadcast on another Mediaset show, drawing attention due to their controversial content. These excerpts included the use of foul language and inappropriate advances towards a female colleague.

Explicit Remarks

In one instance, Giambruno was heard saying, “Why didn’t I meet you before?” In a more explicit recording, he boasted about an affair and suggested that female colleagues could work for him if they participated in group sex.

Previous Controversy: Victim-Blaming Comments

Giambruno had previously faced widespread criticism in August for making victim-blaming comments following a gang rape case. During his program, he said, “If you go dancing, you have every right to get drunkโ€”there shouldn’t be any kind of misunderstanding and any kind of problemโ€”but if you avoid getting drunk and losing your senses, you might also avoid running into certain problems and coming across a wolf.
Meloni’s Response to Previous Controversy
After the incident in August, Giorgia Meloni defended herself. She stated that she should not be judged for her partner’s comments and that she would not respond to questions about his behavior in the future.
