In the early morning of Saturday, major fire broke out at construction site of Sabarmati Bullet Train Station, an official said. There were no reports of casualties.

An official from the fire department said that blaze erupted around 6:30 am and there was no report of casualty in blaze.

At least 14 fire tenders rushed to the scene and fought the flames for two hours before controlling them. Officials believe the fire broke out during welding work, causing a large part of the station to catch fire.

According to statement issued by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the agency responsible for the project, the fire was reported on the roof shuttering of a section of the construction site of Sabarmati bullet train station.

The statement also stated, “No injuries or casualties have been reported. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but prima facie, it appears that welding sparks from temporary shuttering work may have triggered it.”

The NSHRCL officials stated they are operating the situation.

The station is part of the 508-km Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project.

The project cover 352 km in Gujarat and 156 km in Maharashtra, with 12 stations planned in Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
