According to India’s Transplantation of Human Organs Act (2014), organ donation is allowed only from immediate blood relations such as parents and siblings.
The Indian living donors can only donate their organs to any foreign recipients if they are close relatives. This rule is strictly enforced to prevent illegal organ trade. Also the senior member of the recipient’s embassy must certify the relationship between the donor and recipient. This certification is necessary for the organ donation to be considered valid.
These cases are only considered if no eligible Indian patient is available for the organ donation. This ensures that Indian patients have priority in receiving organs
