The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Executive Director and Regional Officer of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) Maisnam Ritan Kumar Singh, Regional Office, Guwahati, while accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a private individual to grant undue favour to a Kolkata based private company.
According to officials, the CBI registered a case based on source information against the Executive Director and two representatives of a private company. A trap was laid on October 14, 2025, leading to the arrest of the NHIDCL official and Binod Kumar Jain while the bribe was being accepted.
According to CBI the bribe was paid in exchange for granting a favourable extension of time (EOT) and a Completion Certificate for the four-laning project on National Highway-37 between Demow and Moran Bypass, as well as for other highway contracts in Assam.
During Subsequent searches at seven office and residential premises, the CBI recovered cash amounting to ₹2.62 crore from the residence of the public servant.
Investigations further revealed that the accused official and his family own nine landed properties and 20 apartments across India, along with documents for high-end vehicles registered in their names. Verification of both movable and immovable assets is currently underway.
Both the arrested individuals produced before the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Guwahati, on October 15, 2025.
