In a continued crackdown on fake medical practitioners, Cachar police has arrested two more fake doctor in separate operation on consecutive days. The total number of Fake doctor arrested since August count to 17 in Cachar.
Acting on tip-off, on November 1, Cachar police arrested 42-year-old Supal Roy, a resident of Chotojalenga Part II under Dwarbond Police Station. He was caught red-handed while illegally practising as a doctor at his pharmacy in Rosekandy Tea Estate. According to police, he operated a pharmacy with an attached “doctor’s chamber,” where he examined patients and issued prescriptions. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
On the next day, November 2, another fake doctor arrested in Tarapur, Silchar. Acting on tip-off, police arrested 39-year-old Indrajit Roy, from Tatpara, Samuktala in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. He had been working as a “visiting doctor” at Maa Ayurved, located at E&D Colony in Tarapur, Silchar. Investigations revealed that Indrajit Roy possessed no valid medical certification and was treating patients illegally.
During a press briefing, Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Subrata Sen confirmed that the anti-quack operation is ongoing.
“Recently, we caught two more fake doctors—Supal Roy, who was practising at Rosekandy Tea Estate, and Indrajit Roy, who was attending patients at Maa Ayurved in Tarapur. Both are now in custody,” Sen said.
He further lauded the efforts of Cachar Police in eliminating fake doctors from the district, revealing that 17 such quacks have been arrested so far, with operations set to continue. The ASP also urged citizens to report any information regarding fake medical practitioners to the Cachar Police Crime Branch at 6026903329.
