Cachar Police have arrested Dr. J.P. Das, owner of Mawsumi Hospital in Silchar, for allegedly being the mastermind behind Cachar’s fake doctor certificate racket.

Dr. J.P. Das, who has accused in several cases, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon (October 22) and produced before the court. For further investigation, the court has remanded him to four days of police custody.

According to a senior police official, the multiple fake doctors recently arrested in the district were found using certificates issued by dubious organizations. It has been found that these certificates were allegedly provided by Dr. Das in exchange for large sums of money.

“He can certainly be termed the head of the ‘Munna Bhai racket’, as he was the one issuing fake medical certificates to these pseudo doctors,” said the official, adding that his network may extend beyond Cachar.

Besides this case, Dr. Das faces several other allegations. In addition to Mawsumi Hospital, he owns Zeno Health Spa and Parijat Hotel & Restaurant on Trunk Road, Silchar. On October 9, several female employees of Parijat Hotel reportedly vandalized property and assaulted a receptionist, claiming that Zeno Health Spa—allegedly run under Das’s supervision—was involved in “objectionable activities.”

Though similar complaints had been raised earlier, Dr. Das allegedly managed to evade arrest using his influence. However, this time, police successfully tracked him down and took him into custody.
