Cachar Police arrest four in Rs 10 Cr Extortion case linked to highway firm

Cachar Police have arrested four individuals in connection of Rs 10 Cr Extortion case, who posed to be a Terror Outfit Members on February 26, 2025.

According to reports, the four accused posed as members of the banned terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and demand ₹10 Crore ransom from Jandu Infratech Ltd. a highway construction company.

On February 21, a company official received a threatening call demanding ₹10 crore or face serious consequences. The complaint was lodged at Katigorah Police Station (Case No. 10/2025), and police quickly started their investigation.

At First Cachar Police arrest two suspects, Mohamma Alekuddin (25) and Ajiruddin alias Amiruddin from Kalain. After interrogating them mastermind, Boktar Hussain arrested from Rymbai village, East Jayanti hills, Meghalaya, along with another accused, Samsir Uddin Barbhuiya resident of Katigorah. Meghalaya Police helped in the arrests and the mobile phone and SIM card used in the extortion call recovered.

Cachar SP Jandu Infratech Ltd. received phone call on demanded Rs. 10 crore

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta on Wednesday (February 26) said, “On February 21, a company involved in the National Highway four-lane project received a call from two individuals who claimed to be Lashkar-e-Taiba members. They demanded Rs. 10 crore, threatening consequences if it wasn’t paid. We immediately registered a case and began our investigation.”

He added, “First we arrested two suspects Mohamma Alekuddin (25) and Ajiruddin alias Amiruddin from the Kalain area. After arrest during interrogating and technical analysis, we traced the prime accused, Boktar Hussain from Rymbai village, East Jayanti hills, Meghalaya, and another suspect, Samsiruddin. With the help of East Jaintia Hills Police, we arrested them and recovered the phone used for the ransom demand.”

Mahatta also confirmed that the suspects have no known terror links, stating, “From our primary investigation, they appear to be miscreants involved in coal smuggling and other illegal activities in Meghalaya. We are using both human intelligence and technical analysis to gather more details.”

Police are searching for two more suspects believed to have fled outside the state, and further investigations are ongoing.
