Continuing its crackdown on fake medical practitioners, the Cachar Police on Wednesday night (November 5) arrested yet another imposter doctor, marking the 18th such arrest in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from the Lakhipur Police Station conducted a raid and apprehended Sekhar Acharjee from his residence at Pailapool under the Lakhipur subdivision of Cachar district.
According to officials, Acharjee had been illegally treating patients from his home without holding any valid medical degree or registration. During the operation, police seized medical instruments, medicines, and several documents used in his practice.
Among the seized items was a certificate issued by the “Indian Council of Alternative Medicines,” an organization previously flagged for granting unauthorized medical credentials.
Police have initiated further investigation to verify how Acharjee obtained the certificate and to identify possible links with other individuals operating similar fake clinics in the region.
Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to taking strict action against quack doctors endangering public health through fraudulent medical practices.
