A tragic road accident in Silchar has once again raised serious concerns about road safety and accountability. On the night of March 18, a Cachar Deputy Commissioner’s office driver, Hari Singha, lost his life in a hit-and-run crash at Ramnagar.

According to initial reports, Singha was riding his scooter along the road when a speeding Bolero SUV suddenly hit him from behind. As a result, the impact threw him onto the road, causing instant death. The vehicle reportedly belonged to the Food Corporation of India (FCI). Moreover, it carried an “On Duty FCI, DO Silchar” signboard. However, it had no number plate at the time of the accident, which raises serious questions.

Growing Concerns Over Government-Linked Vehicles

Soon after the incident, police reached the spot and took swift action. They recovered the body and sent it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. At the same time, officials seized the vehicle. Meanwhile, authorities have started an investigation to identify those responsible.

This Cachar Deputy Commissioner’s driver hit-and-run crash has now sparked public anger. Many residents are asking how a vehicle without a number plate could move freely on the road. In addition, repeated cases involving government-linked vehicles have increased concern among locals.

Notably, a similar incident took place on October 2, 2025. In that case, a CPWD-registered vehicle allegedly hit and killed Sushil Das in Meherpur. Therefore, such back-to-back incidents highlight a troubling pattern.

Overall, authorities must act strictly and ensure accountability. Otherwise, such negligence will continue to put innocent lives at risk. Road safety must remain a top priority.
