Ayushman Bharat Scheme is the world’s largest healthcare scheme of India. It is developed by the Government of India in 2018 to provide financial support to the people who does not have that much of money for healthcare cost. The scheme till now has covered more than 10 crore families across the country. The main of this scheme is to help the poor people who can’t effort the cost of the medical treatment of critical diseases like Cancer, Skull base surgery etc. which need big amount of money for treatment. Under this scheme per family will get fund upto 5 lakhs rupees for healthcare expenses annually as health insurance.

What is Ayushman Bharat Scheme

Ayushman Bharat Scheme is consider as the World’s biggest Healthcare scheme. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India works to provide free healthcare services and benefits to Economically weaker section. Under this scheme PM Jan Arogya Yojana is launched by the PM Narendra Modi. The aim of the scheme is to provide free treatment to the weaker section upto 5 lakh per year.

After applying to the scheme it will provide Ayushman Bharat Card which is the receipt to start free treatment in any hospital. This health care scheme will cover of the medical treatment cost, medicine cost, diagnostics and pre-hospitalisation expenses.

  • Ayushman Bharat Scheme provides cashless access upto 5 Lakh to health care services for the beneficiary at the point of service, that is, the hospital.
  • It also covers up to 3 days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses such as diagnostics and medicines.
  • There is no restriction on the family size, age or gender.

  • PM-JAY is the world’s largest health insurance/ assurance scheme fully financed by the government.
  • It provides a cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization across public and private empanelled hospitals in India.
  • Over 12 crore poor and vulnerable entitled families (approximately 55 crore beneficiaries) are eligible for these benefits.
  • PM-JAY envisions to help mitigate catastrophic expenditure on medical treatment which pushes nearly 6 crore Indians into poverty each year.

For Rural areas who fall into at least one of the following categories:

  • Only one room with kucha walls and kucha roof
  • No adult member between ages 16 to 59
  • Households with no adult male member between ages 16 to 59
  • Disabled member and no able-bodied adult member
  • SC/ST households
  • Landless households deriving a major part of their income from manual casual labour
