Assam’s legendary singer, lyricist, composer, and former radio announcer Syed Sadulla passed away on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The 77-year-old artist had been battling a serious blood-related disorder and was in critical condition since Tuesday.
According to hospital sources, Syed Sadulla breathed his last at 10:30 AM on October 30, 2025, marking the end of an era in Assamese music and culture. His demise has left a deep void in the state’s artistic community, with tributes pouring in from fans, musicians, and cultural figures alike.
Born on February 1, 1948, in Dibrugarh district, Sadulla was a man of many talents — a soulful singer, a gifted lyricist and composer, and a beloved radio presenter at All India Radio, Dibrugarh. His melodic voice and heartfelt lyrics earned him a special place in the hearts of generations of Assamese music lovers.

Throughout his illustrious career, Sadulla’s compositions enriched the state’s musical heritage and continue to inspire emerging artists. In recognition of his immense contribution to Assamese culture, the Sadin-Pratidin Group had honoured him with the Achiever Music Award.
Doctors at GMCH confirmed that the veteran artist had been suffering from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL), coupled with hypoxia-related complications, which led to severe respiratory distress. Despite being placed on ventilator support, his condition deteriorated rapidly.
The news of Syed Sadulla’s demise has plunged the Assamese music fraternity into mourning. Colleagues and admirers remember him as a gentle soul whose art transcended time, leaving behind an irreplaceable legacy that will continue to resonate across generations.
