Assam University Students Union President Subham Roy on 22 May announced that the CUET-UG exams is no longer required for the admission for most undergraduate course at Assam University. He announced this via. his social media account.
He also said that 20% of the seats to take admission in undergraduate are still booked for CUET-UG scores student. Remaining 80% student can take their admission without CUET-UG exams. This decision is made for the region to get easily admitted.
Many of the student of Barak valley faced issues with the CUET-UG exam as their center has fallen in several kilometers away where they have to travel. This led the demand for alternative admission. The Assam University Student union played a key role for changing the decision.
The Student Union also thanked Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, and other supporters for their help. AUSU President Subham Roy stated, “We were the only ones who heard the cry of the students and demanded this change.” Thanks to their efforts, as Assam University will now admit 80 % of students to UG courses without requiring CUET-UG scores.
However, it is important that this decision applies only to UG courses students. Admission to postgraduate (PG) courses, such as M.A., M.Sc., and M.Com., will still require CUET-PG scores.
The Common University Entrance Test (CUET) is a standardized exam used for admission to various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Central universities across India. Since its inception in 2021, students aiming for admission to Central Universities have been required to appear for this exam.
However, this new development will allow students to gain admission to Assam University even without CUET-UG scores.
