A tragic road accident on National Highway 27 at Silchang in Jagiroad, Assam. This accident claimed three lives early on October 28 after a speeding Creta vehicle crashed into a road divider and overturned.

The deceased have been identified as Dr Kantheswar Bordoloi, Ashfiq Hussain, and Manas Mahanta. All three reportedly died on the spot, while two other passengers suffered critical injuries and were rushed to Nagaon for urgent treatment. The vehicle, bearing registration number AS-01EW-6546, was carrying five occupants at the time of the incident.

Dr Bordoloi, a gynecologist at Morigaon Civil Hospital, had recently drawn public attention in September for performing 21 cesarean section deliveries within 10 hours. The feat led to a show-cause notice from the district health authorities for alleged procedural lapses and safety violations.

According to sources, the surgeries were conducted between 3:40 pm on September 5 and 1:50 am on September 6, prompting a detailed inquiry by the Additional District Commissioner (Health). Dr Bordoloi had defended his actions, stating that he operated only on patients needing urgent attention.

Police have launched an investigation into the fatal crash to determine whether over speeding or other factors led to the accident.
