The Assam Police is taking action to stop the misuse of sirens and warning lights on private vehicles. This move aims to promote safe driving and discourage flashy displays.

Background:

In the wake of the Guwahati hit-and-run case, which deeply impacted the city, the Police swiftly initiated a crackdown. The investigation into this incident led to the unraveling of various illicit activities. Among these were the unauthorized use of sirens and warning lights by individuals wielding influence and power.

Warning Issued by Assam Police:

On February 11, the Assam Police issued a stern warning via the microblogging site X. They cautioned individuals whose vehicles resemble disco floors due to excessive lighting. The police highlighted the seriousness of the issue in light of recent incidents. They posted, “If your vehicle’s got more flashing lights than a disco floor & a fake siren that’s faker than a knock-off Abibas Shoe, expect us to crash your party. We’re cracking down on illegal fittings like a boss. Drive safe, not flashy!”

Impact of Hit-and-Run Case:

The arrest of Arin Kataki on January 26, a suspect in a hit-and-run incident, served as a catalyst for action. Investigations uncovered misuse of power by influential figures, including government officials and their families. These individuals were found using unauthorized ‘Govt of Assam’ tags and fitting sirens and warning lights on their vehicles.

Response from Assam Police:

The Assam Police seized nine vehicles found to be equipped with unauthorized lights. The Police emphasized their commitment to persist with the crackdown now that they are informed about the misuse. They advised individuals who have equipped their vehicles with sirens and warning lights to remove them promptly to avoid having their vehicles seized.

Conclusion:

The Assam Police is committed to addressing the misuse of vehicle lights. Their ongoing efforts aim to promote road safety and prevent abuse of power by influential individuals.
