In a swift follow-up, the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption executed a second trap operation. Dibyajyoti Deuri, identified as a middleman, was caught accepting a demanded bribe near the Office of Bihpuria Circle Officer. The operation revealed a conspiracy involving Lot Mandal Rajiv Saikia from Bihpuria Revenue Circle, who also arrested for demanding bribes related to mutation works and accepting them through the middleman.
Block Development Officer’s Office: Breeding Ground for Corruption
The first sting operation unfolded in the office of Dipta Kantha Chamuah, the Block Development Officer of Chamaria. Allegedly accepting a bribe for processing bills related to completed works, Chamuah caught in the act. The inclusion of Bhaskarjyoti Dutta, the Computer Assistant, suggests a broader network of corruption within the office.
Dipta Kantha with the computer assistant demanded 61,000 bribe from a complainant. They caught red handed when Dipta Kantha 8,000 bribe in his chamber. With him Bhaskarjyoti Dutta, the Computer Assistant got arrested for conspiracy with him.
Bihpuria Circle Officer’s Office: Bribery Scheme Exposed
The second sting operation targeted the vicinity of the Bihpuria Circle Officer’s office. Dibyajyoti Deuri, operating as a middleman, arrested for accepting bribes in conspiracy with Lot Mandal Rajiv Saikia of Bihpuria Revenue Circle. Saikia implicated in demanding bribes for mutation-related works and utilizing a middleman to facilitate the transactions.
Lot Mandal Rajiv Saikia demand for a bribe of Rs. 12,000 in his office from a complainant for mutation-related work. Subsequently, the bribe amount was negotiated down to Rs. 9,000. Taking action, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam, orchestrated a trap in the office of the Circle Officer, Bihpuria Revenue Circle.
During the operation, a middleman named Dibyajyoti Deuri arrested in a shop near the office. The arrest occurred immediately after he accepted Rs. 6,000 as part of the initially demanded bribe from the complainant. The enforcement team conducted the operation in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring transparency in the process.
Furthermore, in the same undercover operation, Lot Mandal Rajiv Saikia of Bihpuria Revenue Circle also detained for his involvement in demanding the bribe and subsequently accepting it through the middleman, indicating a potential conspiracy in the corrupt practices.
