To support the health and well-being of pregnant women and newborns in tea garden, Assam SM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a wage compensation scheme which will provide ₹15,000 to each pregnant woman.
This financial aid is a way to let mothers have improved health during pregnancy because they do not suffer the loss of wages while being pregnant
So far, the program now reaches over 1.3 lakh women with ₹127 crore transferred directly into beneficiaries’ bank accounts. This service helps ease a lot of financial burdens, which, in turn, supports better prenatal and postnatal care, which chances are healthier outcomes for mothers and babies will happen in tea-growing communities.
CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took social media handle and announced about the scheme. He stated, “To ensure proper care for pregnant women and new born babies in tea gardens, we are providing ₹15,000 each to pregnant woman as Wage compensation. This scheme has so far benefitted over 1.3 lakh women who have received ₹127cr+ directly into their bank accounts.”
Earlier, the Assam government has launched strict regulations under Mission Bashundhara 3 to combat illegal construction on tea garden lands. This initiative aims to regulate land use while safeguarding the rights of indigenous communities who were settled on these lands prior to December 31, 2022.
The rules, has served from recommendations by Justice (Retd.) Biplab Sharma. It emphasize a strict stance against unauthorized construction within tea plantation areas.
Under these new rules, any new building raised on Assam’s tea garden lands will be treated as a criminal offense. This policy reflects the government’s commitment to preserving the integrity of these agricultural lands and protecting them from unregulated development.
