Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on November 2 announced a series of major railway connectivity projects for the state following a “very productive meeting” with Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in New Delhi.

In a post shared on X, the Chief Minister said the meeting focused on expanding Assam’s railway network to strengthen regional connectivity and drive economic growth. Among the key highlights, approval has been granted for a new rail link connecting Umrangso to Lanka in Hojai district — a move expected to enhance access to the scenic hill town and neighboring areas.

The discussions also resulted in the introduction of three new Amrit Bharat trains to and from Assam, along with an agreement to expedite work on the Kokrajhar–Gelephu Mindfulness City railway line, which will establish a new rail corridor between Assam and Bhutan.

In addition, more train stoppages will be introduced across major stations in Assam to make travel smoother and more convenient for passengers.

Expressing gratitude, CM Sarma thanked Minister Vaishnaw for his support, writing, “Happy to share that the Hon’ble Minister has kindly consented to these action items.”

The Chief Minister emphasized that these developments align with the state’s long-term vision of making Assam a key logistics and connectivity hub under the ‘Viksit Bharat, Viksit Assam’ initiative.
