Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in New Year’s press conference announced that it will mandatory for state government employees to learn a regional language, alongside Assamese.
He stated, “Any individual joining the Assam Civil Services (ACS) or Assam Police Services (APS) must learn a language other than Assamese. This could be Boro, Mising, or Karbi. But I have to learn a regional language because when we go to these places, we are not able to work.”
This move aims to promote linguistic diversity and foster better communication in Assam’s multicultural society. Assam CM also encouraged government official to learn more tribal language through out the year. Underscoring the significance of preserving and promoting Assam’s diverse cultural heritage.
