On 10 March 2024, a team of Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam has caught red handed an ASI in accepting bribery. The ASI is identified as Noman Uddin Ahmed of Ghungoor Outpost under Silchar Police Station, District Cachar, Assam.
According to some source from police department that Ghungoor police had successfully recovered a motorcycle which was reported stolen by its owner. However instead of returning the vehicle to the owner, ASI Noman Uddin Ahmed allegedly demanded a bribe in exchange of vehicle.
The Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam has posted about the bribery via. social media account. In that they posted, โ Today, Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, Assam trapped ASI Noman Uddin Ahmed of Ghungoor OP under Silchar PS, Dist-Cachar, after he accepted demanded bribe from the complainant for handing over the stolen motorcycle of the complainant.โ
The police demanded Rs.6000 bribe in exchange of the vehicle of the owner. Later the bribe amount was reduced to Rs.4000.
However, the police caught red handed in her residential when he was accepting the demanded bribe from the complaint. The tainted money was recovered from the ASI possession and seized in front of independent witness.
A case has registered in the ACB Police Station vide ACB P.S. Case No. 20/2024, under Section 7(a) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 against the ASI.
ASI Noman Uddin Ahmed is now under interrogation. While the full details of the bribery is yet to revealed. Further investigation is going on.
