All 4 Bodies recovered from Flooded Umrangso Coal Mine

On February 19, the remaining four missing mining workers dead body recovered from Tin Kilo, Umrangso flooded coal mine.

The NDRF team and Indian Army official successfully recovered all the missing coal mine workers brining the total count to nine workers. All the nine workers was trapped in the illegal rat-hole mine in Umrangso Dima Hasao, Assam.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took the social media and confirmed about the recovery. He stated, “Today (February 19), the dewatering of the Umrangso mines was completed to a level where retrieval operations could be launched. The mortal remains of the remaining 5 miners have been recovered and brought up from the mine shaft. The process to identify the remains has been initiated.

The Umrangso flooded Coal Mine tragedy

On January 6, at around 8 am the coal mine workers trapped 300 feet below inside the Umrangso coal mine. They started work at 6 AM, but within two hours, water from a nearby abandoned coal mine flooded the area, trapping the miners.

By 8 AM, 300 feet below the surface, the miners found themselves surrounded by water and unable to escape. While some managed to survive and escape, 9 workers trapped inside. On 19th February, all the missing 5 workers has recovered.
