One person killed and at least 17 people injured after a violent clash erupted in the area of Kadamtala, North Tripura over Durga Puja Donations on Sunday.
Eight individuals arrested in connection with violent clash that took on Sunday night at Kadamtalaโs Kamatala market and nearby areas, Tripura.
North Tripura SP Bhanupada Chakraborty confirms that one people died in the incident. He stated, โOne person succumbed to his bullet injury. Two other also injured in the clash over the collection of Puja subscription at Kadamtala. At least eight people have been arrested.โ
โWe are thoroughly investigating the entire episode of the attack and counterattacks. At least 17 people, including 15 police personnel injured in Sundayโs incidents,โ Chakraborty told IANS over the phone from Dharmanagar.
He also stated, โI urge everyone to maintain peace in the area and allow the police to handle the situation. We recovered one body this morning, and the investigation is ongoing. There are also rumors circulating, and I strongly urge people to refrain from spreading misinformation. Strict action will be taken against those responsible.โ
The district police chief said the situation in Kadamtala is fully under control, and the police are taking the necessary steps.
To control the situation at night Security forces including Assam rifles and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), were deployed in the area.
The Incident
The incident happened on October 6 when a Muslim family from Kadamtala was traveling to Assam for medical treatment. They were stopped by a Durga Puja organizer who reportedly demanded a large amount of money as donation of Durga puja, which led to a heated argument and a fight.
Following the confrontation, members of the Muslim community staged a protest outside the local police station, demanding action against the Puja organiser. Based on their complaint, one person arrested.
However, the situation escalated when miscreants launched attacks on the local market, vandalising and setting shops on fire, which further aggravated tensions.
The miscreants also looted and ransacked many shops and also launched attacks on some houses.
Prohibitory order has imposed Due to Violent Clash in Kadamtala, Tripura
To prevent the situation prohibitory order has imposed in North Tripuraโs Kadamtala area.
Sajal Debnath, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Dharmanagar, imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in Kadamtala until Wednesday to restore normalcy, officials said.
The restriction will remain from October 6 to October 9.
