SM Krishna, Former CM of Karnataka Pass Away at 92

Karnataka Former CM and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna passes away today morning (12/10/24) at the age of 92. He was suffering from prolonged illness and was hospitalized in August this year. The government of Karnataka declared a three-day mourning with holiday announced on Wednesday on his last rites. Also, flag will be flown at half-mast at top government offices as a mark of respect for former CM SM Krishna.

The state also order that no government function or entertainment programs will be held for the three days.

Prime Minster Narendra Modi on his respect stated, โ€œShri SM Krishna Ji was a remarkable leader, admired by people from all walks of life. He always worked tirelessly to improve the lives of others. He is fondly remembered for his tenure as Karnatakaโ€™s Chief Minister, particularly for his focus on infrastructural development. Shri SM Krishna Ji was also a prolific reader and thinker.โ€

He also stated, โ€œI have had many opportunities to interact with Shri SMKrishna Ji over the years, and I will always cherish those interactions. I am deeply saddened by his passing. My condolences to his family and admirers. Om Shanti.โ€

Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that the government will hold a state honor for SM Krishna’s funeral, which will take place in his hometown, Maddur, with the last rites scheduled for 4 PM on Wednesday.

Karnataka Government also allowed for public to pay their last respects till 8 am Wednesday and in Maddur on Wednesday between 10:30 am and 3 pm.

About SM Krishna

SM Krishna born in Somanhalli, Mandya district of Karnataka. In political career he served prominent position. He served as Karnataka Chief Minister from 1999-2004. He known for promoting IT and infrastructure development, he helped Bangalore emerge as a global tech hub. SM Krishna also served as Union Minister for External Affairs from 2009-2012 and as Governor of Maharashtra from 2004-2008.
