Cyclone Remal has hit many places in West Bengal state and North eastern state of India. The storm also brought rain with it. Yesterday, on 28 May there was a red alert in several district of Assam, Karimganj is one of the red alert area.
In Karimganj yesterday heavy rainfall took place which result the Longai river overflowed. An embankments at the Longai river in Isaganj village has also suffered damage due heavy rainfall in Karimganj district.
The water level of Longai and Singla river has crossed the danger level and water in overflowing and entering the village area of Patharkandi, Karimganj where the flooding situation rises. About two hundred villages facing the threat of flooding. The water level is still rising.
Another reports has emerged that another embankment breached in Bajarghat area during night on 28 May. This news increased the worries about the safety of people in the affected place. The water of the river in entering the village very speedily.
Authorities need to act quickly as the situation has already gone out of the hand. The broken embankment need to fix quickly and prevent more damage. Emergency actions will likely be taken to strengthen the embankments and protect vulnerable communities from flooding.
School and all educational institution Closed in several district of Assam included Karimganj
The School and all educational institution will remain close on 29 May due to red alert for Nagaon, Hojai, West Karbi Anglong, Karbi Anglong, Golaghat, Dima Hasao, Cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj, all educational institutions in these districts.
One died and several injured due to Cyclone Remal in Assam
Cyclone Remal has affected many places in Assam where many places has faced storms and heavy rainfall. A tragic incident took place in Assam due to cyclone. A student has died and 12 students has injured.
A student name Kausik Bordoloi Amphi (17), died in Marigaon, and 12 students were injured in Dekhiajuli due to falling trees.
In Guwahati many trees has uprooted in place like Cotton University and Jyoti Chitraban caused no damage to people or buildings. Power supply is disrupted in lower Assam, including Guwahati.
