Pope Francis, the first Latin American Pontiff has died at the age of 88 at Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital, in the morning at 7:35 as local time (5:35 GMT).
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Apostolic Chamber, announced the death of Pope Francis at 9:45 am. He stated, “Dearest brothers and sisters, with deep sorrow I must announce the death of our Holy Father Francis. At 7:35 this morning, the Bishop of Rome, Francis, returned to the house of the Father.” Reported in Vatican’s TV channel.
“The Pope admitted to the Agostino Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital on Friday, February 14, 2025, after suffering from a bout of bronchitis for several days.” Reported by Vatican news
After 38 days treatment in hospital, the late pope returned to his residence in Vatican at the Casa Santa to continue recovering.
He passed away on Easter Monday, just one day after greeting worshippers from the balcony at Saint Peter’s Basilica on Easter Sunday.
