Nagaland Recorded 0% Vote in 1st Phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024

In the history first time India has witnessed of 0 % Vote from a district. On 19 April the first phase of Lok Sabha Election has took place in 21 State. Nagaland is also one of the 21 state in which Lok Sabha 1st phase election took place on 19 April. But this election made record as Nagaland has witnessed 0% of Vote from its 6 District.

There was 738 polling station in total in six district. The six districts, comprising over 4 lakh voters, opted to demonstrate solidarity with ENPO and stayed indoors on polling day. As of 1 pm, there had been no voter turnout recorded in these districts.

Election officials reported that, no voters have cast their ballots in the six Eastern Nagaland districts due to the call from various Naga groups to “abstain” from voting in support of their statehood demand. Even the MLAs representing the 20 assembly segments in Eastern Nagaland did not turn up to vote.

After casting his vote at a school in Kohima, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated that the state government has proposed the establishment of an autonomous body for the development of Eastern Nagaland and its residents. He also mentioned that the Election Commission has issued a show cause notice to the Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation (ENPO) for urging people to refrain from voting.

Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer R. Vyasan, in his notice to the ENPO, hinted at taking appropriate action under the Indian Penal Code. The electoral fate of three candidatesโ€”opposition Congress nominee S Supongmeren Jamir, ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) candidate Chumben Murry, and Independent candidate Hayithung Tungoe Lothaโ€”will decided by over 13.25 lakh voters, including 6.64 lakh women.

The ENPO, advocating for their demand for a separate state, has called for voters to abstain from participating in the electoral process in the six Eastern Nagaland districtsโ€”Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Shamator, and Noklak. These districts inhabited by seven tribes: Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Tikhir, Sangtam, and Yimkhiung.
