By 11:00 am 23.20 % Voters has vote and by 40.23% Voter have given their vote. However, residents along Chittaranjan Road in Silchar ‘s NS Avenue are notably absent from this count as they called boycott voting.
Consisting of 120 voters of this area have called boycott due to the dire condition of their lane, submerged in foul drain water. Even an hour of rain is enough to their courtyards to get filled with smelly water. This water even goes into their water tanks, making life very difficult for them. They’ve complained to their leaders many times, but nothing has done. They feel ignored and helpless. The residents of the area said “We’ve petitioned our MLA, MP, and all relevant authorities. Six months ago, MLA Dipayan Chakraborty pledged to address the issue. Yet, it’s been mere promises,” lamented a resident.
The women of the lane bear a particular burden, forced to raise their sarees above their knees to navigate the waterlogged lanes, a source of deep shame. “But who listens? Our struggles have ignored for years. Why should we bother casting our votes? Our voices seem inconsequential. We’re just 120 voters amidst larger margins,” shared one resident.
According to the resident, their area is flooded because a canal called Longai khal is blocked. This is why they are suffering from the water problem.
