An On Duty Polling Officer died in Hailakandi, Assam

An incident reported in the day of 2nd phase Lok Sabha election at a polling station in Katlicherra, within the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency, on Friday 26 April morning. An on Duty Polling Officer has died in Hailakandi.

According to sources, the officer, whose identity yet not reveal, reportedly passed away due to high blood pressure. He was on duty polling officer of polling station at Katlicherra, Hailakandi under Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency

This unfortunate event echoes a similar tragedy during the previous Lok Sabha elections on 19 April, where a member of the Raijor Dal party suffered a fatal heart attack while performing her duties at the election table in ward no. 10 of Banmukh Panchayat. The deceased identified as Sangeeta Gogoi.

Meanwhile, voting is in progress across five Lok Sabha seats in Assam today. As of 11 am, the voter turnout stood at 27.43%. Diphu leads with 30.82%, closely followed by Karimganj at 29.99%.
