On Saturday, 22 June a violence erupted in the Binnakandi area of Cachar. A group of mob gathered and vandalized many properties along with a mosque in the area for allegedly kidnapping a 19 years old Hindu girl by a local man of the Binnakandi. As a result of the violence many of the residents sought refuge in nearby area of New Ramnagar.
The local man identified as Mannan Ahmed who allegedly kidnapped a girl. The girl identified as Rikiyason from Scottpur tea estate of Kumbigram, Udarbond, daughter of Pandit Rikiason.
To control the situation Lakhipur, Sonai police with their senior official went to the scene. According to SP, the police registered a kidnapping a case against Mannan Ahmed and investigation launched on this case. Based on tip off they raid a location at the Mizoram border and traced the man. They also rescued the girl who has kidnapped.
After arresting Mannan Ahmed it has been revealed that he is a married and father two children.
According to police, on Sunday at around 2.00 am when they were escorting Mannan Ahmed to Medical check up to Lakhipur BPHC Hospital, he requested police to stop the vehicle for nature’s call at Shivpur, Moragong, Baskandi.
Once the vehicle stopped, Ahmed suddenly attacked a police officer Lnk Jasimuddin Laskar and tried to fled into the open field taking advantage of the darkness. Police then called for him to stop, but he didn’t listen them and continue running. Police have no other option and fired two round and injuring Ahmed in the leg and they caught him.
The police Lnk Jasimuddin who was attacked by Ahmed was also injured. Both of them the police and the accused taken to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

Talking to Media, SP Numal Mahatta said, “Mannan Ahmed kidnapped a 19 years old girl from tea estate and was trying to run away to Mizoram. For this reason in the area of Binnakandi a violent situation erupted by the locals which was taken control. We detained the man in the brder of Mizoram and brought him to Binnakandi for investigation. As per law, for medical checkup police he was taken to Medical Center at around 2.00 pm. On the way in area Shibpur, Moragong, Baskandi he attacked a constable and tried to flee. Police called for him to stop and warns him, but he didn’t listen them and continue running. There for first shot a blank fire but he didn’t scare and neither stop so they fire him to at his leg. And thus, managed to arrest him.”
Controversial Encounter: Mannan Share his story
But a twist come when Mannan Ahmed shared his story. Mannan Ahmed said, “I fell in love with the girl, and we’ve been talking with each other for the last five months. On Thursday, we run away after she called me, saying she had left her home and would kill herself if I didn’t take her with me. We agreed to run away together and have been staying in different places since then.”
He also added, “When tension began to mount on Saturday, we decided to surrender. I contacted the Sonai Police through an elected AP member, and both of us surrender ourselves in. From Sonai, we were taken to Silchar, where she was sent to the Ujjwala Home. I was taken for a medical check-up and then kept at the Silchar Sadar Police Station. Around 2:30 AM, the officials told me to get in the car because we needed to go to Lakhipur. The police van left, and I could hear the officers talking. They took a reverse turn and went to Shibpur, where they asked me to get out of the car. As soon as I got out, I was shot in the leg.”
