A polling station officer from Karimganj whose video went viral for giving polls more than one times has been suspended for the work over negligence and dereliction on election duty on Tuesday. The District Election Commissioner of Karimganj has officially stated that the video captures a mock poll exercise.
The incident took place on 26 April during the 2nd phase of Lok Sabha Election 2024 in Polling Station No 11, 240 No. Nayadhar L.P. School in Patharkandi, Karimganj. Of this polling an officer in a live video seen that he had cast five votes in favour of BJP Candidate contesting from Karimganj. This live video has latterly deleted from the account but one of the users had download the video before he deleted. The individual who has downloaded it shared on social media account which goes viral.
Karimganj Polling Officer Suspended Identified
The name of the presiding officer identified as Abdul Sahid, Nazrul Haque Tapadar, a librarian and presiding officer of Polling Station No. 11, 240 No. Nayadhar L.P. School under 125-Patharkandi LAC.
The Suspension order has passed after the video of a mock poll went viral in the social media. Abdul Sahid, reportedly a polling agent for Abdul Hameed, captured a video using his phone during a mock poll, which violates the strict protocol prohibiting phones, smartwatches, and cordless devices inside the polling station. Such actions have sparked concerns, especially since the Presiding Officer is responsible for ensuring that voters do not carry mobile devices into the booth.
As a consequence of this breach, Nazrul Haque Tapadar has been suspended due to his confirmed involvement in gross negligence of duty.
The District Election Officer in Karimganj issued an order saying, “So, for now, until further decisions are made, Mr. Nazrul Haque Tapadar, who works as a Librarian, is suspended from his job right away. This decision is made under Rule 6 (1)(A) of the Assam Service (discipline and appeal) Rules, 1964.”
