This alarming situation arises because Guwahati has recorded an annual average PM2.5 concentration of 105.4, exceeding WHO guidelines by more than ten times.
The Cause of the pollution in Guwahati can be attributed for the reason of construction that causes the rise of dust pollution. A shocking 42 Indian cities are among the top 50, raising serious concerns about the country’s air quality. India ranks third among the most polluted countries globally. Bangladesh ranked 1st and Pakistan 2nd most polluted countries.
The report highlights the severe consequences of air pollution, with an estimated one in every nine deaths worldwide attributed to this environmental threat. According to the WHO, air pollution causes approximately seven million premature deaths annually. Exposure to PM2.5 pollution worsens various health conditions, including asthma, cancer, stroke, and lung disease. Additionally, it can hinder children’s cognitive development, worsen mental health issues, and complicate existing illnesses like diabetes.
