In a shocking incident near Delhi iconic Red Fort, eight people were killed and at least 20 others injured after a massive blast ripped through a car on Monday evening.
According to officials, the blast occurred around 6:52 PM in a Hyundai i20 car near the Red Fort Metro Station. The blast leaved mangled bodies and several damaged vehicles scattered across the busy area.
“The explosion took place in a slow-moving vehicle that had stopped at the Red Fort traffic signal. There were occupants inside the car. The blast also damaged nearby cars,” Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha told reporters.
A high alert has declared across the national capital. The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) confirmed that 20 fire engines dispatched to the site as police and emergency teams cordoned off the area.
The Anti-Terror Squad and the Delhi Police Special Cell have reached the scene to conduct investigations and assess possible terror links.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of chaos as flames and thick plumes of smoke rose from the burning vehicles. This triggered panic among people in the crowded vicinity.
Notably, the blast came just hours after Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered nearly 3,000 kg of explosives from two houses in Faridabad, Haryana. The materials — including 350 kg of ammonium nitrate, a fertiliser often used to make explosives —seized following intel from arrested J&K-based doctor Adil Rather.
Authorities are now probing possible connections between the Faridabad explosives haul and the Red Fort car blast.

Car Used in Delhi Blast Linked to Man From Kashmir’s Pulwama
Fresh details have emerged in the Red Fort car blast that killed eight and injured 20 in Delhi on Monday evening. According to sources, one of the owners of the Hyundai i20 involved in the explosion is a man from Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials revealed that the car, which exploded near Red Fort Metro Station, was initially owned by Mohd Salman, a resident of Gurugram, Haryana. The vehicle bore the registration number HR26 CE 7674.
Gurugram Police confirmed Salman’s arrest late Monday night. During interrogation, Salman told investigators that he had sold the i20 car to a man named Tariq, who hails from Pulwama, J&K. Authorities currently verifying whether Tariq subsequently resold the car to another buyer before it used in the blast.
The explosion, described as a high-intensity blast, triggered widespread panic in the busy Red Fort area. Security agencies, including the Delhi Police Special Cell and the Anti-Terror Squad, are probing possible terror links and tracking the chain of ownership of the car to determine how it ended up at the blast site.
