Cyclone Remal: Heavy Rainfall Alert in West Bengal and Northeast State

On Sunday night the Severe cyclone Remal hit the Bangladesh and several district of West Bengal. It causes lots of damaged in three coastal districts of Eastern Indian state. The cyclone took two people life and around 2,00,000 people displacement. The storm also uprooted many trees and blew tin shades of several Kuccha houses.

One people Md Sajid was killed in Entally, Kolkata when a piece of concrete fell on him during the storm. Another, An 80 year old woman, Renuka Mondal died in Frazerganj, South 24 Parganas when an uprooted tree fell on her. At around 9.30 am yesterday when the storm hit land it bought, winds of 110-120 km per hour, reaching up to 135 km per hour.

The Cyclone had not stopped it has started moving northwards and is continuing to do so, gradually weakening on Monday, May 27 according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Heavy Rainfall Alert in West Bengal and Northeast State because of Cyclone Remal

The IMD has alerts of heavy rainfall in West Bengal and Northeastern state of India. In it bulletin it write, โ€œWest Bengal: light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy and Heavy rainfall at a few places is likely over coastal districts of West Bengal adjacent to Bangladesh on 27th May. The peak rainfall activity is likely of 27th May. Light Moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over eastern districts of sub-Himalayan west Bengal on 27th may and 28th may.โ€

“Northeastern State light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to heavy rainfall at isolated places likely over Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura on 27th May and 28th May. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over Assam, Meghalaya on 27th may and 28th May. ย Arunachal Pradesh on 28th May and Mizoram and Tripura on 27th May.โ€

Heavy Wind Alert in Northeast

According to IMD, โ€œSqually wind speed reaching 50-60 Kilometer per hour gusting to 70 kilometer is likely over Mizoram, Tripura and South Manipur on 27th May and 40-50 KMPH gusting to 60 KMPH is likely over South Assam and Meghalaya on 27th May.
