A powerful cyclone forming in the Bay of Bengal is expected to affect Odisha, Maharashtra, and Gujarat from May 23 to May 27, as per Mumbai Nowcast.
Additionally, the weather department forecasts substantial rainfall in Gujarat and Mumbai by May 28, 2024.

Currently, a cyclone is strengthening and anticipated to hit the eastern coastline before moving towards the west, affecting a broad swath of the country. Although the India Meteorological Department has yet to issue an official announcement regarding the cyclone.
The weather bureau has projected light rainfall across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, and other states until May 23.
In its latest bulletin, the IMD predicts scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds (40-50 kmph), over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim in the next seven days.
Additionally, light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecasted for Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Lakshadweep until May 23, attributed to a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area and adjacent southern Tamil Nadu coast.
The IMD reported heavy rainfall in past during past 24 hours 0830 HRS IST of 17.05.2024 in Kerala.
The IMD also predict heat wave alert in Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi and few pockets of Rajasthan. Heatwave conditions likely in isolated/few pockets of UP,MP,Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha,Jharkhand, Gujarat, Saurashtra & Kutch on 20th May, 2024.
