Cachar police today arrested three youth for assaulting a school student forcing to chant Jai Shree Ram in Silchar city.
According to reports, a video goes viral where a group of youth humiliated a 15 years old student of Narsing higher Secondary School in Silchar near the BSNL Telephone Exchange office in Sadarghat on Monday. The group of youths, identified themselves as right-wing activist and alleged to be the member of the Bajrang Dal.

In another reports, Bajrang Dal’s Silchar Division Secretary Mithun Nath stated that the boys who forced the youth to hold his ears and assaulted him are not members of Bajrang Dal.
The student is belongs to minor community, who was accused of erasing “Jai Shree Ram” graffiti from a school wall and forced to chant the same slogan after being assaulted. Despite pleading that he had not written or erased anything, the attackers claimed he removed the graffiti to write “Allah.” The entire incident was recorded by the attackers, who shared the video on social media with derogatory remarks, escalating communal tensions.
Among the attackers some of them was a student of same school. Under pressure, the victim was forced to admit the chant. When his parents tried to file an FIR at Sadar Police Station, they alleged that the police refused to register the case, instead suggesting a “mutual understanding.” The attackers were called to the station but were reportedly released without punishment.
When the video reached senior state officials, prompting Cachar Police to act. Following a complaint, three juvenile students were apprehended. Police stated the juveniles will be presented before the Juvenile Justice Board for further action.
