Assam Police Jawan Rupul Barman Dies by Suicide in Cachar

In a heartbreaking incident, a 41 years old Assam Police Jawan died by Suicide at the Mahadevpur Border Outpost near the India-Bangladesh border in Katigorah, Cachar district, on Friday afternoon.

The deceased identified as Lance Naik Rupul Barman, a 6th Assam Police Battalion, resident of Doloo village in Borkhola, Cachar. According to reports, he allegedly shot himself in the head with his service rifle inside the barracks during duty time.

Hearing the gunshot, fellow jawans reportedly witnessed the tragic event and immediately rushed to the scene and found him lying in the ground. They immediately rushed him to the Kalain Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.

Following the incident, police and administrative officials conducted an inquest at the site before sending the body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for post-mortem examination.

The exact reason behind the step of Rupul Barman’s is not known yet. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the incident.
