What is Ambubachi?
Ambubachi is the Ardra Entry Cycle, which means wet or moist. When the Sun enters the Ardra constellation, it is believed that the Earth menstruates (period), leading to increased rainfall and reduced influence of the Sun. According to scriptures, special worship methods are followed at Kamakhya during this time due to the goddess’s special condition, but this is only for Kamakhya and Shakti worshippers. This time affects the whole world. Worship does not stop during this period!
All daily rituals continue, and after Ambubachi ends, it is advised to bathe and change the clothes of the idol. Many people observe strict discipline during Ambubachi in their own ways. Generally, plowing the land and lighting fires are prohibited. Reciting and worshipping as per the guru’s instructions or tradition during this time are especially fruitful. However, there is no rule to cover the idol or stop daily worship.
