Assam Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi district of Barak Valley region is now facing floods due to heavy rainfall. In Karimganj the embankments of the river in many areas have damaged and the river water entered the village in Patharkandi areas. Many houses have damaged, people are living in the higher region out of the house. The NDRF team has been conducting rescue operation in the flood affected areas. Many relief camp have been established.
Today, an additional NDRF team has deployed in the Barak valley to joint the team in rescue operation. The team has airlifted from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LBGI) Airport, Borjhar, Guwahati and reached to Silchar Airport in Cachar.
Area of Barak Valley Affected in Flood
The Barak River crossed the danger level and many people living near it are facing floods. In many areas the river has also overflow. The embankments of Brak river near the Rakhalpara area have caused severe flooding in villages like Janiganj, Madhurbond, Khalpar, Rongpur and Karatigram. The area like Kalibari Char has witnessed flood as it is situated near bank of the river.
The area of Salchapra in Silchar, Cachar is witnessing harsh situation as the water of the river has entered the village. In this area they faces shortage of clean water.
73 relief camp has established in Cachar a total of to help the flood effected people. In Karimganj 16 relief camp and 14 in Hailakandi has establisheh,โ Minister Pijush Hazarika said.
Many roads have been damaged due to heavy rainfall in Northeast of India. In Assam a total of 3,49,045 people has affected by the flood.
As of now the Barak River water level is decreasing. But still the water level is above the danger level. Meanwhile many families who affected by the floods expressed their frustration as they have not got any kind of help from the local authorities. According to some media reports in some areas no one administration has visited in the areas to provide assistant.
