A Tragic Incident took place in Cotton University in Guwahati. A student of the Cotton University commit suicide by jumping from the second floor of the Pronalaya hostel.

According to initial reports, the girl jumped from the second floor of Pronalaya hostel, where she was staying.

After the incident, she immediately rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for urgent medical treatment. But the day after the incident, she passed away from her injuries on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 9:30 am on Tuesday, according to reports. This incident left the University community in great shock.

The girl is a Higher Secondary (HS) first-year student. She originally from Mangaldoi in Assam’s Darrang district, had been residing in Pronalaya hostel for approximately seven months.

Hostel authorities stated that the girl’s father was en route to Guwahati yesterday to bring her home for Bihu festivities. However, he was informed about the tragic incident before reaching the hostel.

The Guwahati police have launched an investigation into the matter. A mobile phone and a diary were recovered by the police from the girl’s room. This tragic incident underscores the critical need for mental health support and awareness within academic institutions and communities. It urges contemplation on implementing measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
