India has taken bold decision against Pakistan for supporting cross-border terrorism after the Pahalgam terror attack which took life of 26 people.
The Cabinet Committee on Security or CCS, the country’s highest decision-making body has taken some strict action against Pakistan after investigations revealed cross-border links in the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, where 26 people, including a foreign tourist, killed.
India accused Islamabad of supporting cross-border terrorism and suspended the 1960 Indus Water Treaty. Also closed the Integrated Check Post at Attari and ban the SAARC Visa Exemption Schemes for Pakistan.
Ministry of external affairs stated that “the attack came in the wake of the successful holding of elections in the Union Territory and its steady progress towards economic growth and development.”
Important decision took by the India Government against Pakistan
- Indus Water Treaty Suspended: India has suspended Indus Water treaty of 1960 suspended, which manages the sharing of river waters between the two nations. This suspension will stay in place until Pakistan stops supporting cross-border terrorism.
- Attari Border Check Post Close: India has shut all the cross-border movement through this route. People who entered India legally through that route can return the same way, but only until May 1, 2025.
- SAARC Visa Ban for Pakistanis: India has suspended the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) for Pakistan nations. Means Pakistanis no longer travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. All previously issued SVES visas to Pakistani nationals are now cancel. Anyone from Pakistan currently in India on an SVES visa has 48 hours to leave the country.
- Military Advisers Sent Back: Pakistani defence officials (navy and air advisers) posted at their High Commission in New Delhi have declared Persona Non Grata — they must leave India within a week. India will also withdraw its own defence advisers from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. These military positions in both countries’ High Commissions are now cancel immediately. Additionally, 5 support staff from both sides will also be sent back right away.
- National Security must be on High Alert: All the security personnels must be on high alert in the border area.
- India government on Thursday blocked the official account of Pakistan Government on X.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: India will identify, track and punish every terrorist

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing program stated that, “India will identify, track and punish every terrorist, their handlers and their backers. We will pursue them to the ends of the earth. India’s spirit will never be broken by terrorism.”
He also added, “Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve. Everyone who believes in humanity is with us. I thank the people of various countries and their leaders, who have stood with us in these times.”
Further manhunt is going on. On the ground, the Indian Army and police have launched a large-scale search operation to find the terrorists responsible.
Early reports say the attack was carried out by a group of 7 terrorists, including some from Pakistan, who opened fire on innocent tourists.
A high-level meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) was held with key leaders. The key leaders — Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval — to review the current security situation and decide how India should respond to the deadly terror attack.
