Cyclone Dana had made heavy rainfall in the costal area of Odisha and West Bengal which started from Thursday night and continue into early hours of Friday. This cyclone with high speed winds caused destruction as they moved past the Bay of Bengal.
The cyclone uprooted trees, snapped power lines and blocked the roads in the landfall area. In Odisha, the coastal districts Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Balasore and nearby Jagatsinghpur district witnessed sudden increase in wind speed which reached 100 kmph to 110 kmph and extremely heavy rain.
No Casualty reported in the area of Odisha, but flooding witnessed in the coastal district of Bhadrak, Kendrapara and Balasore.
One person reported dead in West Bengal as authorities in Kolkata remained alert followed the landfall of Cyclone Dana as reported in NDTV.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stayed at the state secretariat overnight to keep an eye on the situation. She said they have identified 356,941 people who need to be evacuated from low-lying areas in coastal districts. By Thursday afternoon, 159,837 people had already moved. Banerjee added that about 83,537 people taken to 851 cyclone shelters and flood relief camps.
Odisha Government Achieved Zero casualty’ target after Landfall of Cyclone Dana
ย In Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi stated, โA total of 5 lakh 84 thousand 888 people have been shifted to safe places in the 11 districts that will be particularly affected. The number of shelters has been increased. Out of total 8382 shelters, 608 are functioning. Cooked food, drinking water, medicines etc. have been provided for the people in all those places.โ
He also added, โSimilarly, 4431 people have been brought to the mother house for the protection of pregnant mothers. Happily, 1,600 of them delivered newborns and both mothers and babies are healthy. The government is aware of providing medical assistance and security for them. Along with this, a total of 19,476 livestock have been brought to a safe place and provision has been made for their food and drink. The ‘Zero Casualty’ target which the government started preparing to deal with the storm has been implemented 100 percent.โ

After the Cyclone Dana landfall Multiple agencies including Odisha fire services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force, and NDRF deployed in work to clear the roads.
