The old Saraighat bridge in Guwahati will temporarily close for two days for urgent repairs. There will be causing major traffic disruptions. The railway department decided to stop vehicles from using the bridge starting from 11 pm on Saturday to fix big cracks found in different parts of the bridge.
The temporarily closure of the road aims to facilitate the repair of the huge phat mela bridge. This crack of the bridge has developed serious structural issues causing difficulties for vehicle travelling. The railway department has planned to complete the repairing work within two day.
During the period of repairing of the old bridge, Guwahati vehicles are redirected to use the new Saraighat Bridge instead. But because of this change, there is a lot of traffic and jams from Jalubari to Amingaon.
