Assam to Provide Subsidised Dal, Sugar, and Salt to Ration Card Holders from October

Assam Cabinet has approved to provide Subsidised Dal, Sugar and Salt to improve nutritional security for economic weaker sections, to National Food Security Act (NFSA) beneficiaries across the state.

The subsidy to provide Dal, Sugar and salt at Subsidised rate from October, 2025.

As per the Cabinet decision each NFSA ration card holder will receive:

1kg Dal

1Kg Sugar

1Kg of Salt

Every month

The affordable price under this scheme is

₹25 per kg of Masur Dal

₹20 per kg of Sugar

₹10 per kg of Salt

To implement the scheme, the Assam Government will allocate approximately ₹50 crore every month. The essential commodities will be procured from NAFED (National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India) to ensure quality and steady supply.

The susbsided commoditiesd will take place through the existing Public Distribution System (PDS), alongside the regular NFSA allocations of rice and wheat.

Officials state that the move aims to ease the financial burden on low-income households. Improve dietary diversity and support better health outcomes across both rural and urban regions.

Further details regarding vendor selection, distribution logistics and monitoring mechanisms will announce by the Food and Civil Supplies Department in the coming months.
